"An in vitro study of the definitions of monstrosity through queer transmedia performances"

Abstract:
"« Monster » is a common slur to describe a queer individual ; yet we have sanitised our flesh to the point of mistaking monstrous traits for what makes one Human. The oppression and violence faced by not only the LGBTQIA+ community but by our entire species to « fit in » urgently needs to be addressed and (drag) performers have the power to change the course of growing hatred. IN VITRO aims to broaden the collective consciousness's perspective on minorities considered atypical by deconstructing the invisible walls that cage them. The study involves locking up performers in a transparent cage called the Box to then physically and metaphorically break free of it. PROTOCOLE N/001 took place in Liège, Reflektor the 06th of May 2023. Through a hybridation of cabaret and visual arts, we were able to create a time and space where healing was the focus and where all living BEINGS felt loved and cherished for who they truly are, skin, bones and hearts."
